Condolence & Memory Journal

Thinking of you Carol and my two brothers Don and Ben everytime I see these three birds playing on the fence outside my window on a sunny summer day. These three birds chase each other for a good 15 minutes or at least until I finish my last sip of coffee . As I watch them stop chasing each other, they stare back at me chirping as to tell me they are happy . Somehow I know it's a message from God letting me know that everything will be okay. So I listen and pray and sing because I find joy seeing, watching and listening to these three beautiful birds each morning

Hi Aunt Carol,
its Nic, I visit this memory page often, but think of you even more. The memories are what help me get through the tough days and on the tougher days I just cry.

i have so much to say, but I feel like you already know because you are with me in spirit. Daryl (teacake) is growing like a weed, and DJ graduated from 8th grade!

Derek is doing well, and most recently we were faced with an obstacle and he said "What would Aunt Carol do" that's all he had to say and we knew we had to take the high road....just because that's the kind of woman you were.

Anyway...its taken me this long to post on this page, and I'm glad I waited. My heart is still heavy but I know in time it will heal.

Love you always forever and ever!

Love, Nikki

Dear Kimberly and family,

I was upset to learn of Carolyn's passing. I had the pleasure of working with her at the Dulles reservations office for several years. She was one of the most positive, energetic and thoughtful persons I ever met and her inner beauty radiated to everyone around her. She always went out of her way to smile, say good morning and ask how my day was going. She was so loving and kind to those she knew, and if she didn't know you, she made it a point to change that! As the saying goes, Carolyn never met a stranger.

She shared her beautiful voice on several occasions for us at work and I am certain that she has joined the choir of the Lord. May she rest in peace with her beloved Don, and shine down on her family until you can all meet again.

Carol was of my favorites at United (old United). She was the reason I can boast a 35yr career. It was always her upbeat positive outlook on life that kept me going. Her bright light will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace my sister.

Dear Kim and family please know that our heart felt sympathy is with you all at this time. We remember Carolyn from many wonderful years working together in both Pittsburgh and Washington. Carolyn brought sunshine into our lives with a wonder smile, and lovely personality. Her melodius voice brought such great happiness wherever she sang and we so enjoyed her sharing that voice with us. Know that we also are so sad to hear of Don's passing. He was such a dear man. God bless you with peace in remembering all the good time you have had.
Sincerely, Sherry & Susie

Carol will always be remembered as a fun and loving sister-in-law who was creative, talented and beautiful. She was very encouraging. I don't recall her having anything negative to say about anyone.
I'll never forget that when my faimily first met Carol and heard her sing we said she sounded like Nancy Wilson (famous singer). Carol also loved to share stories about her family vacations on cruise ships and other countries that she took with her husband Donald and daughter Kim. Because of her expressive way of speaking and singing, we nicknamed her "Mockingbird". I will truly miss her and my brother Donald and all the fun times we've had together.
Sing on "Mockingbird" sing on at Heavens Gate!
May God Bles Us All

Carol & Don lived in the Eldorado Towers in Hyattsville,Md. in the 1980's. It was there where we shared so many laughs, food, singing and good times. Carol loved to talk she could take about 10 minutes to say goodbye to you when you left their home or from on the phone. She will be missed. Kim, you are one of my hero's.. Love Uncle Coach

Dear Kim & Family,
As you can see, I've known Carolyn for a very long time. Would often go hear her sing back in our Pittsburgh reservations days. She was my supervisor for a short time & I'm sure I was her biggest struggle. Even though she could get in trouble for not straightening me out you'd never know it. She always greeted me with a smile & treated me with tact & grace. Definately a one of a kind.
My thoughts & prayers go out to all of you.
Rest in peace, Chicken.

Dear Kim and family,

I worked with your Mom in reservations for several years.Everyone attests to her being and spirit that inspired a bright light in a very dismal work atmosphere.

She was an inspiration to countless agents in reservations and at the airport.

We had many conversations regarding work. When the conversation turned to you, her entire aura would light up. I remember when you were accepted at Columbia for Journalism. She could not have been more proud.

When I worked at the airport, I remember her last day before retiring. The line to wish her well was so long it wrapped all around the baggage area.

Your Mom will be looking after you always. Her love and pride will never fade. Although she was taken from the physical world too soon, you are so lucky to have had her as a mother.

The rest of us been blessed to have known her. I will always think of your Mom when I remember working for United. She was proof that a person of her high caliber inspired good workers. Good workers make good business and productivity. /

May you find solace in knowing how much she meant to all of us. I considered it a privilege to be her friend.

In deepest sympathy,

Beth Friedman

I had the pleasure of working with Carolyn at Dullles Reservations and followed her to Dulles Airport. Always, a smile for everyone, a kind word to all, and a shoulder in times of trouble. Carolyn's smile would light up the room when she entered, and her voice; sweet as an "angels". The heavens opened up when Carolyn made her entrance.

I was so sad to hear of Carolyn's passing. I worked with her at United, and I remember she always had such a warm, friendly smile and attitude, in addition to being a trusted and respected supervisor . My thoughts and prayers are with her and her family.

Your mother was one of those beautiful people that everyone truly loved. She was the first person I met when I started to work at Dulles in 1999 and I'll never forget her. (I still have a United coffee cup she presented to us at our "graduation" and think of her every time I use it! I moved it with me 3,000 miles because it was so special.) She eased anxieties at work and made everything fun. Carolyn always had a bright smile & went above & beyond to resolve issues for us. She even sang to us on occasion! What a bright spirit. She will truly be missed!!

Dear Kimberly and Family, Please accept our deepest Sympathy for the passing of your dear Mom and best friend. We were privileged to meet her when we all worked together in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, may years ago, and were happily reunited again here in Virginia in 1990. She was always such a treasured colleague and a joy to be around. Kimberly and family,
Your mom, was the warmest, kindest, most down to earth person I ever met. Yes, she was my supervisor at work, but she was much more. She was there when I needed to "leave" reservations... she helped me learn what it was I NEEDED! I came to her when I needed an ear, for my personal life.... she was more than accomodating! I felt she understood many of the things I was going through. I loved the fact that she was just such a warm and caring person, who would do ANYTHING for you! I am sooooo sorry for the loss of your Mom Kimberly!! Please know...whenever she and I talked, the conversations ALWAYS ended in, what Kimberly was doing, and HOW Kimberley was doing....she was the most PROUD mom a girl could ever wish for! God Bless You!

Carolyn is my former Supervisor at Dulles, I will never forget her in my life. One of the reasons that I am still holding the job right now because Carolyn's saved my job back in 2001 when I was on probation. Sometimes, it was hard to have a good supervisor that went beyond her reaches to care for you and make sure that you deserved to be treated fairly and equally. I remember that she is always corrected my pronouciation whenever I said 'La Guardia.'
It was my greatful to know Carolyn in my life and also my greatest supervisor.

I will always remember Carol and her kindred spirit. She was loyal to those she loved and a genuine friend. Whenever, I watched her favorite movie the "Notebook " I thought of Carol and Don's love for each other. Carol will be missed for her hearty laughter, and her positive attitude.

May GOD comfort those who are close to Carol and continue to bless them

Kim, your Mom was a classy lady. She always had a smile, and warmth just flowed from her. We met each other later in our lives, but she touched me deeply. We shared common ground with music and caretaking. Her smile, her spirituality and her heart are what I will remember the most. I believe she is at peace, and happy to be with your father, Don. I am honored to sing at her service.

I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that those of us who worked with Carolyn at United would like to thank her "other" family for sharing such an incredible woman with all of us.

- I was lucky to have her as my instructor in May of '86 shortly after the passing of one of her parents.
- I was lucky to have her as one of my supervisors in reservations.
- I was lucky to have been able to call her a peer as a fellow supervisor.
- I was lucky to learn from her how to treat people with compassion and dignity.
- I was lucky to have her support and encouragement during my career at United.

I was just plain lucky to have been able to meet and know Carolyn McArthur.

My deepest sympathies to Kim and other members of Carol's family and friends. Carol was the most optimistic person I knew. She saw the good in everyone and in all situations. She was kind hearted and a good friend to many - including me. Her singing voice was angelica. At her passing, I know that she was reunited with her husband, Don. Rest in peace Carol for your mission on earth has ended. As a sister in Christ, I know that one day I will see you again.

She was always smiling, always complimentary and always had time for a conversation and a laugh. She had a beautiful melodic speaking voice and a singing voice that lit up a room. She will be really missed, a class act always. May God bring you comfort in the memories of Mz. Carolyn.
